The Sunday Stroll for November 9th, 2008
Plenty of action this week, recession and comics, Obama is president, The Punisher is going back to what?, DC and marketing; those two words don’t seem to go hand in hand. Time for an over-stuffed edition of The Sunday Stroll.
There has been plenty of discussion lately about the price of comics possibly being raised to $3.99. I hate that idea, I think comics are overpriced as it is and a price increase would certainly be a cause for downsizing my monthly pull list. It would appear that me and the author of this article are in agreement. Comics are too damn expensive!
This article over at The Comics Reporter got me to thinking about why I have a problem with paying $3.99 for a comic book but would be willing to pay $8.95 for a movie ticket? I don’t know the answer to that, but I know I would have a problem paying $3.99 for a comic book.
Here is an article speaking on the possible decline of The Punisher now that Garth Ennis plans on taking Frank Castle back to his earlier ridiculous days, as the articles writer puts it. I think the Punisher portrayed in today’s comics is pretty bad ass, the way he was always meant to be. So why change a good thing now? This sounds like something that a certain shaved ape would allow to happen.
I’m not upset with the way the election turned out. I was ready for change and although I really liked John McCain I felt that Obama was the better man for the job. However, had more people seen this campaign advertisement the election may have turned out a bit differently.
We already know that Manhunter has been canceled by DC Comics with the reason being lack of sales, but if you want to sell something then you’ve got to market something. Am I right? Someone should tell that to that certain somebody over at DC. Anyway, I like what this guy had to say about the cancellation of Manhunter. There is a lot that I can say about the type of marketing that DC employs and most of it isn’t good but I’ll save that for another day.
Does the series LOST have a resident barber? Cause, you’d think those guys would have hair down to their asses by now and the women would have legs as hairy as an ape.
Hellboy II is going to be released on DVD and Blue-Ray in the next few days. The first one wasn’t worth watching more than once but the previews and reviews that I’ve read for the second film have been pretty positive so I’m looking forward to seeing the movie. Since Universal Studios did not seem fit to send me an advanced copy looks like I’ll have to purchase my own, and thanks to reviews like this it looks like I’ll be making the purchase. If I don’t like the movie then I’m going to contact the site owner for a full refund.
Batman sues Batman. Just goes to show you that people are willing to file a lawsuit for any reason possible.
I often wondered if I was a nerd or a geek. I spent so many sleepless nights trying to figure this out. Well, now I know, I’m most certainly a geek. Although I think this guy may be geekier than me.
That’s all.
