When I first heard about this series several months ago I was both happy and upset. Happy because I thought the idea of a red Hulk would be pretty awesome. Upset because it would disrupt the balance of my complete Incredible Hulk collection. Well after reading issue #5 of HULK I am happy to say I am over the fact that my Incredible Hulk collection came to an end in place of this red Hulk.

As with every other issue in this series there is action in HULK #5, and plenty of it. Who is the victim of the red menace this time around? The God of Thunder, Thor. I’m not a Thor fan, never have been never will be, don’t ask me why, I just never liked the guy. So it was nice to see the red Hulk walk the floor with him.

I was surprised to see that A-Bomb helped fish the green hulk from the bottom of San Fransisco Bay. That was unexpected to say the least. Actually, just to see A-Bomb was unexpected and to hear him converse with the green hulk reminded me of a bunch of cavemen trying to put a sentence together.

Ok, so I’ve rambled but I don’t feel like I have said much about this issue at all so here goes. It was actually one of the better issues in the series. Not many, if any, questions were answered about the origin of the Red Hulk, but it’s getting closer, you can just feel it, hell we’ve got to be close right?

Anyway, the writing I can’t say much about, there really aren’t many deep conversations going on in this series, the plot rolls forward with every punch thrown by the red hulk. The mystery of the red hulk keeps the story moving along as well.

As far as the artwork goes, I really like what Ed is doing here. With all of the action and violence you don’t really get that sense at all when looking at his work here. To me the book is very colorful and that shows in his art, of course all the players involved are pretty colorful, red hulk, green hulk, A-Bomb…you get my point don’t you.

In closing this was a better issue than the previous ones and sets us up to what looks like to be a majoer slug fest with some heavy hitters involved.

Story: 3/5
