So yes, it’s been nearly three weeks since we took our last stroll. Not for a lack of trying on my part but when your dealing with the flu bug followed by a sinus infection writing is the last thing on your mind. So I offer you my humblest apologies as I did not intend on neglecting you. Let’s hope I can make up for it with today’s edition of The Sunday Stroll.
So your a struggling comic book writer, needing some guidance and not sure where to go? Actually that sounds like a potential description of myself. Well technically I’m not a struggling comic book writer because I don’t write comics (although I’d love to do so), but if I ever attempted to write a comic book I’m sure I’d turn out to be a struggling comic book writer anyway. For those of you would be comic book writers that are struggling you may want to check out this site called Super Hero Nation. It’s purpose is to offer free advice on how to write, edit and sell novels and comic books. It’s a great resource that may help move you from the struggling comic book writer to the accomplished comic book writer.
So your not a struggling comic book writer, you’ve actually published a comic or two but you have no idea how to market that comic book, right?
Maybe this website can help you out, Comic Book Marketing, the site is very informative and you may learn a thing or two or three on how to go about getting your book seen by the masses and keep them coming back.
Speaking of which, can I tell you of two effective ways to advertise your comic that I feel many of the “little guys” tend to overlook? That was a rhetorical question. Even if you answered no I’m still going to tell you anyway.
Press releases and interviews.
Those two aspects of promotion are often times overlooked by the “little guys”. So maybe Comic Book Resources and Newsarama won’t give you the time of day- don’t sweat it as there are plenty of other comic book sites on the intra-webs that WILL give you the time of day. Let me see, ComicNews.Info is one website that quickly comes to mind. I happen to know for a fact that ComicNews.Info enjoys promoting the “little guy”. With that said, it’s self promotion time, yes I can self promote, it’s my column.
I am offering an open invitation to the “little guy”, whether you’re a one-man show or a 100-man show, we don’t care just send us your press releases, send us your review copies, we’ll give you a stage. Want an interview? Sure, no problem. Have you seen our newest feature, “Checking in With…”? We’d love to spotlight you in that feature. If that’s not for you then how about a full-fledged interview? What I’m getting at is you need to utilize all options available to you to promote yourself and your work and we are more than willing to lend a helping hand. Best of all, it won’t cost you a dime. As Norm Breyfogle once said….“As for my answering interview questions, I consider doing so to be good advertising, and therefore well worth my time.” Words of wisdom if you ask me!
Our very own Jaymes Reed has released his first self-published comic, Lander, which is currently available on Indy Planet. The series synopsis sounds very interesting and appears to be quite unique in today’s world of recycled storylines. Ok, there is the Quantum Leap reference but that was a TV show, a very good TV show I might add, not a comic book.
Here is a brief synopsis; “Lander” is about an afterlife time traveler named Haley who possesses the bodies of women throughout history to alter the outcomes of varying timelines. In the spirit of Quantum Leap, join Haley for a different year, possession –and artist– each TIME.
Told you it sounded interesting. Now go check it out.
Those goofy editors at DC Comics, what could possibly be going through their minds? They should all be ashamed. As one commenter stated. “Why not just put the S on her ass?” And as another commenter stated,”I find this pic far more appealing than another picture of Dan DiDio.” The new selling point for Supergirl, BOOBS . Seriously what else do they have as a selling point? The actual story?
Here are some bits n’ kibbles.
So you’ve heard of Free Comic Book Day right? Well, have you heard of Free Free Comic Book Day for Everyone?
The first three episodes of the Warren Ellis penned G.I.Joe: Resolute are available on YouTube.
Yesterday marked the 70th anniversary of the Caped Crusader.
Hugh Jackman wants you to go to Free Comic Book Day. Better listen to the guy, he has a mean set of claws.
The Wolverine movie leak. Publicity stunt or not?
I’m out!

I like skinny teenage girl boobies.
Still, the uproar is a bit silly. This IS a fantasy genre, and it’s not like the male heroes in the picture are about to jump in with the deep penetration gang bang hardcore anal orgy action. OF COURSE the camera angle is intentional, but innuendo and threat are not the same.
The only people who would really have an issue with this are the bitter fatties and middle-aged women wishing guys would look at them like that. Turn off the Oprah, put down the McDonalds and stop blaming society for your own inadequacies. Teenagers care about perception by others. Adults should have better things to fret over.
How did I know you were going to comment about the boobies.
This reminds me of the whole tentacle uproar from a few years back, what comic was that? Can’t remember, but it sure was a nice cover.
People tend to focus too much energy on things that really shouldn’t matter but on things that carry significant importance, they care too little about.
Uproar for the sake of uproar. I don’t give a rats ass about Supergirl being displayed in that manner, it means little to me.
